Located in the heart of Provence, this project involved renovating an old stone country house into a unique retreat for an art collector. The only requirement was to rethink the spaces in order to welcome both works of art and natural light.
Discover the rebirth of a contemporary home nestled within Provençal stone.
GEM OF ART AND LIGHT
Looking at the exterior, which has been ‘slightly’ modified by the architect, one might think this is a typical Mas Provençal. But inside this stone house, which has been reclaimed by climbing plants, lies a haven of modernity and light.
In order to transform this property in a way that breaks with regional conventions, Maxime d'Angeac started with a blank slate. To accommodate the paintings, photographs and unique furniture, he pushed back the walls and raised the ceiling heights, giving the space a fluidity unknown to this type of structure. Without ever distorting the existing features, he linked them to the new constructions, changing the function of the space while preserving its original exterior appearance.
A technical and creative challenge, that results in an unusual residence that stands out for its modernity hidden behind a historic-looking façade.
