Reconstruction and modification of a beautiful Brussels mansion for a family for whom Maxime d'Angeac completely redesigned this original Brussels home. Far from the contemporary demands of a family unit, this mansion was a series of complicated, long rooms and corridors, connected by a narrow staircase typical of Brussels architecture. Description of a complete transformation of a place in search of grandeur.

Rethinking Belgian homes

At the origin of this project lies a family’s desire for fluid volumes and true living spaces. This is where Maxime's thinking begins: with his client's dreams and desire. It is then up to him to transform it into reality, building on what already exists.

In this case, however, not much remained of the original building: the façades were altered, an additional floor was added, the garden area was transformed, and the entire interior was restructured. It was a true metamorphosis of the space.

The rooms became larger, allowing for more fluid movement. Added to this is a genuine quest for light to enhance the new volumes and the works of art that adorn them. Finally, to link these spaces, a staircase unfolds in the centre of the building. As the mansion's defining feature, it is both an architectural work of art and a central element of daily life, contributing to the smooth functioning and flow of the different rooms in the house.
