記事リンク 今回の装飾美術館での展示のメインは、オリエント・エクスプレス社のアーティスティック・ディレクターを務める建築家でアール・デコ・スタイルに精通しているマキシム・ダンジャック 1925年にパリで半年間開催されて好評を博した現代産業装飾芸術国際博覧会(Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes) の100周年を祝って、パリ装飾美術館で4月25日まで『1925-2025 Cent ans d’Art déco』展が開催され大勢を集めている。展覧会そのものの紹介は次回に譲ることにし、この展覧会の最後の章として美術館の吹き抜けの身廊で展開されている »オリエント・エクスプレス »について見てみることにしよう。 アガサ・クリスティが実話からインスパイアされて書いたミステリー『オリエント急行の殺人』の舞台として知られる列車である。パリとイスタンブールを結ぶオリエント・エクスプレスを走らせていた会社は他のルートの列車も走らせていて、それらは第一次大戦後の1920年台に車両内がアール・デコ装飾に変わり、この時代のリュクスな旅のシンボル的存在だった。 展示会場で明かされるのは、2027年に蘇るオリエント・エクスプレス。スイートルーム車両、バー、レストランで構成されて56～60名を乗せて走るそうだ。このプロジェクトは2016年にポーランドとベラルーシの国境近くで、古い車両が見つかったことが発端である。オリエント・エクスプレスの歴史の始まりは19世紀に遡る。ベルギーで裕福な家庭に生まれたジョルジュ・ナゲルマケールスがアメリカ国内をプルマン社の贅沢な列車で横断した際に、ヨーロッパにもこんな列車があったら！と夢見たことだ。もっとも、その列車は贅沢だったものの、コンパートメントがないので眠るときは小さなカーテンを閉めるだけ、食堂車がないので食事のために停車して……という旅だった。ジョルジュはそうした不便を改良した真に贅沢な長距離列車をヨーロッパで走らせたい！と夢見て、資金集めに奔走 もっと読む Tプロジェクトを発見する
